Rebuilding

Sometimes my home looks a little like a war zone. Debris litters the floors and couches. When there is a stay-cation, picking up after oneself is the first chore to end up by the wayside.

I close these little breaks from responsibility by changing the way I look at the household. If everything was running well, the house would never be out of sorts. What plans could I set in place to prevent this from happening next time?

The first thing I need to do is be involved. I can tell my children to do their chores, but if I help them, I can encourage them. I can tell my children to do their schoolwork, but if I help them, I can answer their questions. Ultimately, I need to change my relationship with them.

It all sounds obvious. Why was I not doing this before? I was distracted. By what? Not enough Jesus in my life. The harder I pray, the more I am led back to the care of my family.

Today, it is time to rebuild.

The Lord restores Jerusalem and gathers together the dispersed people of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. Psalm 147: 2-3
