Putting on a Show

Writer's picture: Nancy TefftNancy Tefft

Today, my boys performed a puppet show in a school for the first time. It was a little more stressful and required a lot more preparation.

Ordinarily, they perform once a month for the same group of children. They have spent the last three years getting to know their audience. They know exactly what jokes will hit and what jokes will miss. Even their improvisation is in character.

New kids, same formula. They were nervous. The students came in and took their seats. The boys each took a deep breath and started the show. The laughter was so loud, the teacher had to shut the classroom door so as not to disrupt the students down the hall.

Boo-yah!

Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick -- no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them." So they went off and preached repentance. The twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. Mark 6: 7-13
