Today is the annual Cleaning Before Easter Day. It rivals the Cleaning Before Christmas, Birthday, and Anniversary Days. Today there is an added bit of leverage ... the Easter Bunny's enormous feet. My family has made the 2012 movie "Rise of the Guardians" a part of our secular tradition. The movie itself has really great messages, and the Easter Bunny's feet are roughly the size of tennis rackets. "I'm sorry, if the Easter Bunny can't get through, I guess he can't bring you presents to celebrate hope in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ." Then they clean for the occasion with renewed vigor.
As the house is being cleaned, it is also time for me to take a moment and clean out my heart to recognize the empty tomb. I spend so much time being surrounded by the extraordinary in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, that I sometimes forget how amazingly wonderful it is.
Reality: The Creator of the Universe lowered Himself to become a man to be with His people, and then lowered Himself to become bread to stay with me personally. Then He suffered and died for my sins, so He could spare me from the punishments I deserve. Then He broke death because death cannot hold God. Then He rose from the dead by His own power. Then He made breakfast for His friends on the beach when they came in from a long night of fishing.
Me: So are we doing the 8am or do the boys serve 9:30am?
The women who had accompanied Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph. They saw the tomb and how His body was laid in it. Then they returned and prepared spices and ointments.
