Ice Cream and Happiness

I was told two things about marriage when I was a child: If a girl has a happy childhood, she will marry someone who reminds her of her Dad, and over time couples start to resemble each other. My Dad loved ice cream. Ice cream always closed his day. On fasting days, he stayed up until 12:01am to get a bowl of ice cream because it wasn't today anymore, it was tomorrow. Back when my husband and I were just dating, he said things like ice cream wasn't just for breakfast. As I found myself considering when ice cream became a perfectly acceptable breakfast item, I knew I have found the right guy for me. Today, I find I am eating ice cream as my preferred comfort food more often than I had before.

My teens have two things almost every teen has and almost every teen complains about: braces and a science fair project due next week. Ice is used in pain management, and ice cream is used to make us less sad about our circumstances. After about a dozen pints of ice cream, my kids felt better, and the science fair project practically did itself.

I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while, the world will longer see Me, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day, you will know that I am in My Father, and you in me, and I in you. John 14:18-20
